Do Your Children Know?

"It’s not enough to love the children, it is necessary that they are aware that they are loved." ― St. John Bosco

I know you love your children. That is never in doubt. It will be ludicrous to ever think otherwise. However, do your children know you love them? Are you getting to them? Are you connecting? Do you love them the way they RESPOND to love? Do you love them the way they NEED to be loved? Is your love making a positive impact on their lives?

Do you know their language? Or, do you love the way you were loved? Do you love the way that makes you look nice and win the accolade of your contemporaries? Is your love for your children, or is it about you? Is your love your weapon for fighting your own demons, from your past, or for releasing the angel in your children’s today and future?

What is the use of a love that does not reach its destination? Useless at the most, will be a fair assessment. Don't you suppose? Let your love be focused. Let your love be targeted. Set a goal and keep monitoring its accomplishment. Don’t waste the years. Let the years count in your relationship with your children. Let your children be all they were created to be. They are not for making peace with your own past failures.

Your children are yours after all is said and done. They are God's. We are all God's. Children are only given to us in God's stead, as stewards. Refuse to usurp your stewardship position. You are no God over your children. They are not your creation, nor your re-creation. Your place as a parent is to be sensitive to the hand of God over them and help them along that line.
