Welcome back from the commercial break.
8. Ignorance. Help me, Jesus! I hate this in myself and detest it in others. Why should anyone be ignorant in this day and age, of information overload? All you ever need to know about practically everything is available at your fingertips. And, if you don't know where to look, or how to look, ask someone. What is difficult about that? Yet a lot of people, especially my own Naija folks, would rather base their lives on opinions. No wonder they amount to "not much." Let's raise the bar.
9. When People Don't Use Their Knowledge. Where more does this hurt than in the church and our various religious organizations. This is probably the only place I find common ground with Karl Marx. He hit the nail right on the head when he said, "religion is the opium of the people." We see it every day around us. We see it severally on YouTube. We hear about it from far and near.
People simply suspend their senses when it comes to religion, especially in the third world. No wonder why we are still in the dark ages, in the midst of so much light all around us. Help us, Jesus!
10. Dishonesty. This closely follows 8 and 9, above, and is sure a derivative of the accompanying frustration. When people have life all figured out wrongly, they are unable to get results the right way. Unfortunately, they are too full of themselves to do a U-turn. "If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Figure out what is wrong. Tweak it and continue tweaking till you get it." Nope.
Commonsense eludes a lot of people, especially religious folks. So, they resort to the next seeming safe thing, dishonesty. They still do their ineffective fake practices, but add things to seemingly help God.
11. When People Want to Stay the Same. People want their lot in life to change but are unwilling to change. That is the classical definition of insanity. And, we have many of such around, everywhere. Lazy people, all around they are unwilling to do what it takes to change their lot in life. They want to have eaten their cake and keep it all at the same time.
Theirs is to criticize how others are making it, instead of laying hold and doing their own grind. Slaves to comfort these are and are willing to chase after quick seeming miracle schemes rather than investing the time and effort it requires to arrive at their own promised land.
This has gone longer than I planned. We take our last commercial break here, so as not to overload you.
St. Akin de Great.
