Knowing Myself is the Key to Knowing Others (Part Nine)

Finding My Voice
Scripture declares,
“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.” (Proverbs 25:28, NKJV)
Self-discovery is the process of building protective walls around one's life. It is the protective mechanism one puts in place to ward off the enemy. As the famous African proverb states, “If there is no enemy within, the enemy without can do you no harm.” How so true? How so powerful? How so self-enabling it makes one? Self-discovery is the process of taking back the reins over one’s life. What you do not know and cannot measure, you cannot make better.
"At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want." (Lao Tzu)
As we get to know ourselves we set minimum acceptable standards we are willing to accept from others. We make personal commitments as to the things we will allow and the things we will not. We give no more hiding places to things that make us less than the best version of ourselves. That is, the vision we have set forth for ourselves. We step out of our comfort zone, our self-limitations, and start challenging the things that hitherto have challenged and/or limited us. We like Jabez begin to cry out,
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” (1 Chronicles 4:10b)
You know I tell people I grew up a shy person and they can’t believe it. The person they see today is so much different from who I use to be. I found out 'shy' was not going to work for me, nor was it going to take me where I need to be. So, I started getting used to being awkward. I started challenging my challenges. More so, as I began to set personal goals, my commitment to them created a life of its own that began to kill the spirit of shyness and other limitations.
"The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself." (Mark Twain)
Stop kidding yourself. No one is looking for a perfect you. It does not exist. All they need is a confident and secure you. Let the world be blessed by you. You are complete. You are whole. You are enough. You are possible. You matter. The world is incomplete without you. When are you going to step into your destiny? When are you going to start challenging the things that are challenging you? When are you going to take your destiny into your own hands? The answer lies dormant in you. When are you going to wake them up? Life is waiting. Life is waiting for you. When are you going to start heeding its call? You cannot afford to die unannounced. I refuse it. I refuse it for you. I do not grant you permission. You are made for so much more. The earth will hear your story.
