Devotional Tea 28: God is Able

Scripture: Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Meditation:
God usually answers our prayers so much more according to the measure of His own magnificence, than of our asking, that we do not recognize His benefits to be those for which we sought Him. (Coventry Patmore)
Not sure where some religious folks get the saying, “God only gives us our needs, not our wants.” That is a lie straight out of the pit of hell. You’ll NEVER find that anywhere in scripture. God is too big, too gracious, too glorious to merely give His children barely enough, or merely that they need. That is not glory. That is not weighty. That is not grace. That is not God.

Glory is weightiness. Grace is more than enough - in abundant supply. God does not answer our prayers according to our needs. That is not scripture. He does, according to His riches in glory [Philippians 4:19]. His riches and our needs are not equals. When He meets our needs, He does in abundant measures, not equal measures. He does not only seek to give us life but give it in abundant measures. [John 10:10]

The one with whom we have to deal is El Shaddai, God Almighty, The All-Sufficient One. [Genesis 17:1] Do not limit Him. Give Him room in and over your life to be all He is in and over our lives. Will you?

Prayer: Lord, help me to come in childlike trust, knowing you are limitless in answering the cry of my heart. Deliver me from the urge and deception to limit you. Lord, be big in my eyes, my heart, my life, and every situation before me. Your glory is all I seek.
