Choose Life (Part Fourteen): Reject the Unempowering Story.

Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” (John 5:5-6, NKJV)

We continue this week with the story of the sick man healed at the Pool of Bethesda. [John 5:1-15].

This man had spent thirty-eight (38) years of his useful life digging himself into a hole (pit) of seeming hopelessness. He thought he had an excuse, and he stuck to it. He felt he had a story, and he stuck to it. His story included the following,

“Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” - John 5:7, NKJV.

You know it was understandable to have this story for the first year, maybe the second and maybe the third, but having the same story for thirty-eight unproductive, barren years? There is no excuse for that. He obviously was sleeping through life, oblivious of what life looks like.

There has got to be something amiss in the man’s composition. He had no goal to seek. He had nothing stirring him up on the inside. He was comfortable in his misery. And, what about you? What is your story? Is it working for you? If not, what are you doing about it? When are you going to change?

When are you going to reframe your story to one that works for you? When are you going to change to a story that empowers you? When are you going to take control over the helms of your life? When are you going to take the bull by the horns? When are you going to start moving your life towards the future you want?
"The victim mindset dilutes the human potential. By not accepting personal responsibility for our circumstances, we greatly reduce our power to change them." - Steve Maraboli.
Life is waiting on you. Take charge and heed its call.
