Welcome back to the Upper Room. So glad you came.
We continue leading ourselves into the Throne Room with our meditations in "The Book of Daniel." We progress to Daniel 6:7 today. It reads,
"All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions."
How so well crafted is their demand? Without a knowledge of the backroom events, one could easily have taught they had the interest of Darius at heart. Isn't that how the enemy appears? He gives us a front as though he has our best interest at heart while holding a dagger with the other hand.
That takes my mind back to February 2016 as I was preparing to journey back to Lagos. My new boss wanted to visit with me before departing Houston. It was not convenient for me as I had several things lined up. To honor him, amidst my tight schedule, I made it happen.
Only to find out he had nothing serious to discuss. The seeming story was as though he cared, but two years after the back story came to the fore. God save us from people who poise like doves but are serpents. Truly, the scriptures tell us "we have an enemy."
So, we are admonished to be sober and vigilant. It has nothing to do with all the false doctrines of the fundamentalist. To be sober has nothing to do with the way you dress, or groom yourself. It is not at outward quality. Nope.
To be sober is to be temperate, circumcised, curtailed, girdled, and have your mind under control, and in the right place. It is an inside job. Yes, it is supposed to reflect on the outside, but it does not start there. No wonder the fundamentalist have failed.
Be sober, be vigilant, you have an enemy, and he has sons and daughters. They don't dress like their father but don't be deceived regardless.
Let's pray.
The Saint.
