Welcome to the Upper Room. So glad you came.
We continue our meditation in "The Book of Daniel." We dig a little further in Daniel 6:4, looking at the enemy without. Other than the enemy that is within us, we have enemies that are outside of us. This is basically the devil and all he is able to influence in his quest.
As we shared last week, our defense and offense ride on our internal victory. The old African proverb says, "if there is no enemy within, the enemy without can do us no harm." If we have our worst enemy (our lower self) in check and have given ascendancy to our best friend (our higher self), we are in good stead to win against the enemies outside of us.
That is what Proverbs 25:28 attests to, when it tells us, "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls." We implode when we do not have control and victory over our vices. The smallest of outside opposition can easily undo us.
Like the scriptures teaches us, when our strength fails in the day of adversity, it is not the adversity that is the issue. (Proverbs 24:10) It is not the strength of adversity. It is our strength that is in question. When we are defeated by adversity, the enemy without, it is because our strength is small - we are lacking in internal victory.
Is that your situation? Are you winning the battles within?
Let us pray.
The Saint.
