Welcome to the Upper Room. So glad you made it.
We continue our study in "The Book of Daniel," with Daniel 6:4. We have several battlefronts arrayed against us. It behooves us to know these fronts and have the right strategy to address these. As Sun Tzu, in his book, "The Art of War," tells us,
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
If we are going to win, we need to know not only our enemies but ourselves and the fronts where we encounter these. Notice I said enemies, not just an enemy. The devil is not our only enemy. Yes, he was, originally, our only enemy, but by reason of the fall, we created other extended enemies.
By reason of the fall, if there was no devil, we will still have an enemy, our own self. We are both our best friend/asset, just as much as we are our own worst enemies/liabilities. It is not one or the other, but both.
By reason of the fall, a new nature was created in us - the fallen nature. This sits in us alongside our original nature. The scriptures tell us these two create a struggle in us. They are continuously at war against each other. They fight for mastery, which gains expression in who we are, becoming, and who we eventually become.
Notice that this is a lifetime war. It will only cease when we exit this realm or we see Jesus. A lot of people have thought cessation of this warfare prematurely and have lived to regret it. There is no anointing that will change its mandate.
In fact, we are most susceptible to it when we think we have overcome it. Wisdom is to never allow our caution to be turned off, irrespective of how we feel or the height we suppose ourselves to have attained.
Let's pray.
The Saint.
