Welcome to the Upper Room. So glad you came.
We continue our meditation in Daniel 6:3. Today we key into the third attribute which produces excellence. That is, "The Spirit of Understanding." Wisdom and Understanding are closely related, but they are not the same. In fact, one can have one without the other.
It amazes me that what Solomon actually asked of God was understanding, not wisdom. Yet, Solomon is famous for his wisdom, not his understanding. Solomon asked God for a large heart to be able to understand and judge the people right.
And, God's response was that he had asked the right thing. He had asked for the causative, not the result. Many miss it because they run after the result, but that is not God's modus operandi. He is not interested in giving us fish. He wants to teach us how to fish.
He is not interested in merely giving us water. He rather put the fountain in us, His Spirit. Hence, we are continually refreshed from within, not from without. He does not just give us riches. Rather, He asked that we seek first the kingdom and its righteousness.
That is that we become the person who will attract all we want. He does not just want to give us for a day. He wants to give us life, and much more. He does not just want to make us happy, nor give us happiness, but rather admonishes us to love. For when we love happiness comes.
When we have the spirit of understanding, we are able to break down things into their component parts in readiness to take the appropriate action. The understanding was what determined the seeds that bore fruit in Jesus' parable of the sower.
Understanding is the difference maker. Do you have the spirit of understanding? Are you seeking it in the affairs of your life?
Let's pray.
