Welcome to the Upper Room. So glad you came.
I was caught up gisting with one of my colleagues yesterday. We were discussing the environment and its effect on people. Are we slaves of our environment, or do we have a choice? Are we who we are only because of where we were born, live, etc? Or, is there more to the equation?
He questioned the veracity of karma. Why? He mentioned a number of people doing well though they had committed several atrocities in the past, and some are still on the same path. Then came the issue of the difference between equity and equality.
I am glad we left on a neat note. A lot of his misconceptions and confusion were given clarity. God is not a God of equality. He is a God of equity. That is a truth you'll see running through the whole o scripture. You will see phrases like,
- "given according to their ability."
- "according to their eating."
- "none had less, none had more."
- "according to the measure of faith."
Herein is the danger of comparison. When we compare ourselves with others we lose the benefit of the proper perspective. Hence, we lose our way. We introduce confusion into our path and we begin to walk out of step with the path ordained for us. Hence, we waste the gift that we are.
Life is all about making choices. Our choices yesterday are why we are who we are today. Our choices today are what is determining all we will be tomorrow. Our choices determine which of three possible tracks we get our life on.
Track 1: All about making heaven eternal.
Track 2: Making heaven temporal and eternal.
Track 3: All about making heaven temporal only.
Track 2 is the genius of the AND, while tracks 1 and 3 are subject to the tyranny of the OR. It is all a matter of our choices and the price we are willing to pay. None is on autopilot. We make it happen by the choices we are making every passing hour.
Let's pray.
The Saint.
